Friday, December 16th, 2011

Cadillac, owned by General Motors, is an exclusive brand name of luxurious automobiles. Much of the assembled units of Cadillac automobiles are distributed in the USA and in Canada, although these are also placed on the market of more than fifty countries. This vehicle brand has come to represent superior craftsmanship and the finest standard in automobile manufacture.

The Cadillac business emerged soon after the company of Henry Ford was closing down due to dissolution. Ford left the company including his chief partners in the business. Upon liquidation of the company assets by the financial supporters of the business, the engineer who evaluated the business machinery and property suggested that they carry on with the business and this same engineer put forward his idea on a new engine. Finally the Cadillac Automobile Company was born on the 22nd of August, 1902.

The name Cadillac was named after the founder of Detroit, who was a voyager from France in the 17th century.

The role of Cadillac in the automobile industry is immense and essential, since this car manufacturer has set the bar high when it comes to superior mechanical modernization, ground breaking design, and luxurious style of exclusive cars. Meticulous development of transposable parts was a commendable business during the early 1900’s. Cadillac pioneered many important features in automobiles, including the electric starter and internal combustion mechanisms.

In fact, much of the advancements that contemporary automobiles are built with nowadays have been first established by the Cadillac manufacturer. It was in the year 1912 that this vehicle brand initiated a fully mechanical arrangement that most automobiles now cannot fully function without. Thermostatic cooling was next, and then thermostatic control.

The Type 55 model of Cadillac was the car of choice for the US Army in the year 1917, following grueling trials and performance evaluation. Many units of the Cadillac were able to perform well in the trials and consequently a good number of this Cadillac model was distributed for employment by the American Army during the First World War. The paint of the cars was the only factor that was altered.

Moreover, Cadillac pioneered the concept of employing a professional designer rather than an engineer in the styling of the automobile interiors and exteriors. This spawned the impression that this brand gave import to both the appearance and the performance of their automobiles. The shatter proof glass features was initiated in the year 1926. Even in the aspect of automobile transmissions, this luxury car manufacturer was the pioneer in both the manual and automatic transmissions.

The manufacture of the V8 engine made it possible for reviewers to discover some flaws with the new model which was the V8 Touring model. The brand rivals rejoiced at this discovery, however the marketing people at Cadillac recognized the need for product support in such challenging times. Soon they circulated a print advertisement in defense of the car brand, and this same advertisement turned events around in a positive direction.

Even the retailers of the automobiles had copies of the ad, and as a result the car sales improved. Even after long years, the same print ad was able to earn an award as Best Advertisement of all time, from people in the advertising business.

The first ever automobile from Cadillac was finished in 1902. This was the 10 hp Cadillac. Many conflicting dates do not point to the real date of the completion, although what remains to be indisputable is that this happened on the month of October. This first vehicle from the brand was an instant and popular favorite, and the initial purchase orders for the vehicles totaled to more than 2, 000.

Cadillac automobiles also participated in the yearly Royal Automobile Club’s rigorous Standardization Test. This involved the driving of the vehicles to a total of 50 miles and then placing them under safety until they were taken apart entirely. After doing so, these vehicles were re-assembled, and with the employment of crude tools such as screwdrivers, they were put back in place after being jumbled together beyond identification.

Except for the parts that required severe precision, which were traded for new ones, the other parts were put back together and the assembled cars were set to run. Among the cars was the winner in the Royal Automobile Club Standardization Test. Its victory was able to give proof to the interchangeability of the parts of a Cadillac.

One version of the Cadillac which was the La Salle was produced until the year 1940, and this was named after yet another voyager from France. This was designed by Harley Earl, who was chief of the Design section of the Cadillac Automobile Company.

By the year 1909, GM (General Motors) was able to buy out Cadillac. GM gave the distinction to Cadillac as being their highly esteemed automobile division and this is where they classify their manufactured exclusive vehicles. This marquee was also emblazoned in the General Motor’s commercially used vehicles such as ambulance and limousines.

Before the Second World War, there were a good number of manufactured Cadillac vehicles, but they retained their dominant stature in the market. Eventually new engines with superb features were incorporated, and these boast of impressive abilities such as being powerful, smooth, and serene. However, Cadillac began to experience hard times in the year 1932, after the sales lowered to drastic levels, and the business having set limitations against black customers. After the company decided to target black clients as well, sales eventually caught up and the business was spared from bankruptcy.

The domineering design concept of this automobile brand borders on the razor-sharp and contemporary realm, giving way to smooth lines and sleek patterns. Cadillac does not believe in making any reinvention of old models, and instead continuously upholds the creation of forward-thinking car designs for their automobiles.

In present times, there are no hybrid automobiles created and marketed by Cadillac. Nevertheless a bold statement was quoted from Bob Lutz when he proclaimed that almost all of the models offered by Cadillac will easily produce a hybrid design that will last for the coming years.
